Step-by-Step Guide to Painting Your Fence

  1. Prepare Your Surface:

    • For new timber, ensure it’s dry and sand any smooth, dressed timber to remove mill glaze.

    • For weathered timber, remove old flaking paint, dirt, mould, and moss. Use a low to medium-pressure wash and let it dry completely.

  2. Check the Weather:

    • Avoid painting if rain is expected within 24 hours or if the temperature is below 5°C.

  3. Apply the Paint:

    • Stir the paint well before use.

    • Use a good quality brush or roller. An airless spray can be used, but may result in uneven application on rough timber.

    • Apply at least two coats for the best results.

  4. Drying Time:

    • Touch dry in 30 minutes.

    • Ready for a second coat after 2 hours.

  5. Clean Up:

    • Wash brushes and rollers with soap and water.

    • Dispose of leftover paint responsibly—don’t pour it down drains.
